Normal evaporation is about a quarter inch a day in summer. More than that, and it is worth a test.
Leak or evaporation
Try the bucket test before you call. It takes a day and costs nothing.
1
Fill a bucket. Set a bucket on the first or second pool step and fill it to match the pool water level.
2
Mark both levels. Mark the water inside the bucket and the pool water on the outside of the bucket.
3
Wait 24 hours. Run the pump as normal. Keep the autofill off and no one swimming.
4
Compare the drop. If the pool dropped more than the bucket, the difference is a leak.
Where pools leak
We test every one of these before we point at anything.
The seam where the skimmer meets the shell cracks, often after a freeze.
Fittings, gaskets and the conduit behind the light niche.
Structural and surface cracks in plaster, gunite and fiberglass.
Suction and return lines between the pool and the equipment pad.
The drain at the deep end and the line that runs from it.
Pump, filter and valve fittings that drip or pull in air.
Loose tiles and gaps where the deck meets the pool.
Spillovers, jets and the lines that feed them.

How it works
1
Your bucket test result helps, and so does whether it loses more with the pump on.
2
Dye tests, line pressure tests and listening equipment, fitting by fitting.
3
We show you where it is leaking and what the repair costs.
4
Crack injection, fitting reseals or line repair, then we test again.
A hard Triad freeze can crack a skimmer or a shallow return line over the winter. If the level drops fast after opening, call before you keep topping it off.
Before you book
It depends on the pool, the equipment and how many lines need testing. You get the price before we start.
No. We test with the pool full.
Yes. We repair shell cracks with epoxy injection, reseal fittings and repair underground pool lines.
Usually only when a covered event caused it, like a fallen tree. Worn fittings and cracks from age are usually not covered. Check your policy.

FAQ
Still not sure what you need? Call and ask. We will tell you straight whether it needs a visit.
Set a bucket of pool water on the pool step so the water levels match, then mark both levels. If the pool drops noticeably more than the bucket over a day or two, you likely have a leak and should schedule pool leak detection.
We use electronic listening equipment, pressure testing, dye testing and underwater microphones to locate the leak in the shell, plumbing or equipment.
Yes. We find the source of the leak without draining your pool or damaging the deck.
We repair pool shell cracks, skimmer and return line leaks, vinyl liner leaks, pool plumbing and structural and decking issues.
Crack injection seals structural cracks in the pool shell, deck or plumbing penetration points from the inside out. The injection materials bond permanently and flex with temperature changes, so the leak stops without tearing up your pool.
